RAIL-EX SOUTHWEST (TAUNTON) 2009
Our annual exhibition RAIL-EX TAUNTON-SOUTHWEST, was held on Saturday 10 th & Sunday 11 th October and proved yet again to be highly successful. Although the crowds through the door were slightly down on last year, we gained widespread publicicity through the local press, radio & television. The friendly atmosphere was complemented by high quality layouts and a wide variety of traders together with demonstrations, displays & Societies.
The St. Christopher's Shield was judged after much deliberation, by two independent personalities, and was won by the atmospheric 2mm layout “Highbury Colliery”. The Chairman's Shield was won by the 009 layout “Nettlecombe” for its delightful village scene. From public feedback in the exhibition programme, the Train World Cup for the public's favourite layout was the 4mm layout “Rowland's Castle”. In addition, this year we introduced another trophy for Best Signalled layout, in memory of our late Hon. Secretary, Brian Winter, who was a past signalled for BR. This honour went to the superb BR(S) layout, “Penhallick”.
We offer a big thank you to all who attended the show and hope you will visit us again next year on our new dates:
23 rd & 24 th October 2010 ,
at our new venue –
TAUNTON SCHOOL , STAPLEGROVE ROAD , TAUNTON , SOMERSET , TA2:6AD.
This will be a far superior venue, offering 2 large halls on the ground floor. There will be extensive parking and excellent catering on both days.
Finally we offer our thanks to all the layouts & traders who supported us, and especially our sponsors – Train World.
We sincerely hope to see you next year, so make a note in your diary now!
